First 90 days in Australia checklist
Not just a list of tasks, but the money sequence that protects the first 90 days.
Before arrival
- Write down when and how much money you will exchange or remit.
- Check when Australian tax residency may start.
- Keep bank statements, payslips, tax records, and property or lease documents.
- Separate your first 6-8 weeks of settlement cash from emergency cash.
First two weeks
- Open bank accounts and separate rent, living costs, and emergency money.
- Apply for a TFN and record the expected timing.
- Recalculate temporary accommodation if renting takes longer.
- Set up phone, transport, internet, insurance, and payment methods.
Before signing a lease
- Convert weekly rent to monthly: weekly rent x 52 / 12.
- Budget bond, rent in advance, temporary accommodation, moving costs, and basic furniture separately.
- Prepare ID, visa, enrolment or employment proof, and bank balance evidence.
- Record the property condition with photos and video before moving in.
First 90 days
- Rebuild your cash-flow table once income starts.
- Review super, insurance, card payment dates, and subscriptions.
- List any Korean interest, dividends, or rental income that continues after arrival.
- Add a rent-increase buffer to next year’s budget.
